A few of my social media friends from Melbourne are up in Sydney for the Connect Now conference.
Me? I'm still down in Melbourne.
The fun of social media and Twitter, though, is that I can still tune into the Twitter hashtag for the conference, #cnow and keep up with what the main speakers are saying.
Then, using Twitter again, I can relay the most salient points to my own followers.
It's a great way of participating without physically being there.
The session I've been following, one of the key speakers was Gary Vaynerchuk, A.K.A. @garyvee. It seems he was quite a hit with the attendees. One of his most salient points was that if your product was sh**, you were essentially [expletive deleted], so even if you were great at engagement that wouldn't make up for a lousy product.
The next speak was @debs, who pointed out there really is no such thing as a "social media campaign," since the word "campaign" signifies something with a beginning and an end, while true social media is ongoing.
It's an interesting conference, with various speakers approaching social media from different points of view. Even if you're not into the business side of social media, there's enough to learn from.
And thanks to social media, you can even take part in the discussion. Give it a try.
